Bullion Tactics In Japanese Gold Heist

Pointing out stories you may have missed. Guess what’s likely to happen if you have more than a million bucks’ worth of gold on display, unprotected by sensors? Yep, chances are, someone’s going to walk away with it.
Three masked men have stolen a massive block of gold bullion on display in a museum in Japan. The gold bar, valued at $1.71 million, weighed about 100 kilograms and was kept in an open safe. The museum, in the central city of Takayama, said the gold was not protected by sensors as they wanted visitors to be able to touch it. The gold was lugged past an employee alerted by the noise, down a staircase and out of the museum where the three men were driven away by a fourth accomplice.

Hiya David,

Wow...That was really stupid...If they wanted people to be able to touch it and not actually decide to take it home with them they should have put it in a security room with a guard, and then the visitors could come in one door and out the other - Sounds better security than what they actually had at any rate.

You need to get us the news before it happens so we can get our hands on some gold!

I wonder if they'll get it back?

Its probably sitting in another museum somewhere, the competitors across the road!

Hi Steph,

Yep, it sounded a little too simple and basic and touch-feely to me.

No sensors, no alarms. Just a getaway car and hey, presto, it's gone!

Not my idea of security!

Hi ak-man,

Okey-dokey, Memo to self: get news to ak-man and other readers next time there is bullion around!

I do like your comment about it sitting in the museum across the road!

Cheers
