Spelling Error On NY Street Signs

Red faces in The Big Apple. According to wcco.com, an observant passer-by spotted an embarrassing spelling error by traffic officials in New York. Road sign crews apparently had a bit of trouble spelling the word ``yield''. The signs posted along Midland Beach on Staten Island, say, ``Yeild to pedestrians''. The error is causing a stir. A spokesman for the Department of Parks and Recreation said: ``It's an unfortunate mistake. An error was made. The signs should never have been put up.''
But I did like the incisive comment by John Annese of the Staten Island Advance at SILive.com. He posed the succinct question, ``Can you spell E-M-B-A-R-R-A-S-S-E-D?’’
