Green Around The Gills

Is That An Aquarium Around Your Neck?

Marine biologists in Chengdu, China, have condemned a fad among young girls for wearing live fish as jewellery. Vendors say the fish can live up to three months in the sealed containers which contain water, fish food and two solid oxygen balls. They say the fish can be released in ponds or tanks by breaking open the pendants.

I don't know what I would give this on a "scale" of 1 to 10.

Of course, all the animal rights people here in the states would have a fit with this fad.

OMG that is just gross and very wrong too - good to know the Olympics are in such good hands!

I was only watching the crazy pollution problem they have there last night on the news and thinking 'great decision' Olympic committee!

Maybe they'll give fish pendants instead of medals?

Released and then what? They are going to be useless with their sea legs.

I have to say that this is a crude, nasty, cruel, horrible trend.

And I want one.

Ugh, why the heck would anyone want to dangle live fish around their necks? (Give me diamonds any day.)

But is it more humane than goldfish-eating? And for whom?
