Hare-Raising Phone Call

Ear, There And Everywhere

Police in Scotland say a woman dialled 999 to complain that the rabbit she had just bought did not have floppy ears. The caller phoned the emergency number when she discovered the pet's ears did not live up to their description in a newspaper advertisement. Other nuisance calls included two people who dialled 999 after being splashed by cars in wet weather.

I wish I could say that I found this to be ha-ha funny, but I can't. The first thing that came to mind was the inundation of the formerly-socialized New Zealand health service with similar calls. Result? (a) Flight of physicians who could to privatized health care systems; (b) demoralization of the rest of the health care profession; (c) collapse of the socialized medicine system and its replacement with a pay-as-you-are-insured American type system, with all its inequities and iniquities.

Perhaps, instead of corporate bailouts, Our Governments need to be handing out, to each and every one of us, a free mirror.

I noticed this in our newspaper the other day. Odd.

We used to have a woman who called 911 every morning to ask "what time is it?" The Dispatch Officer got a mite riled after about two weeks of this and complained to Sheriff Freeman about it...he came in the jail early one morning and when the call was identified as the offending female, he answered her question with a succinct "time to buy a watch".

:) it is actually a bookable offense to drive through a puddle and splash a passerby lol

only last month a young girl here failed her driving test, she had her test in torrential rain and the road was a little flooded and she splashed someone on the pavement.... SHE FAILED her whole test due to this unfortunate circumstance.... she passed every other part of the test..... somehow it just dont seem fair...

Especially as some of us (evil grin), head for the road puddles on purpose LOL
